I loved the look of copper rivets on traditional wooden boats made at the Boat Building Academy. I decided instead of using screws I’d fix my hinges for the six board chest with copper rivets.
Fixing the hinges to the back of the chest.
Fixing the lid batterns.
I used flipped copper roves to fill the countersinks in the hinges.
The fixed hinges in place.
I really liked the way they turned out, despite copper being a pretty soft metal,
I feel like because of the nature of the fixing it’s probably stronger than screwing.
Probably would be a really good choice for boxes made from thinner stock.
